Staycation

Wine, Macaroons and Wings. Oddest combination, ideal na sana to if this came with Coke. Order of the day: Wings, Coke in Can, Macaroons and Wine. /just perfect/

Wings, IPA, sausage and chicharones

Just perfect fat :)) Pork fat with a bit of laman, fried and marinated with pepper and other seasoning. Lathered in buffallo sauce after frying. Crispy even when its not that hot.

Rexperiments Part 2

Kebab Sausage, (insert push SKU here) dip, Rustan's Pita Bread lathered in sausage left-over juice/oil.

Cornell Chicken (insert push SKU here) sauce.

Again, I am not biased with the push SKU but it is too sweet. Prefer its base to be on a more sour/egg(y) sort of flavor. It tastes too much of a sandwich spread to me than a mayo when used for base for sauce :D Might be the preferred taste for most Pinoys out there because it is S-W-E-E-T.

Independence Day Marathon

1. Nightmare on Elm Street- Among films like Child's Play and It, this has top my list of "scariest B movies" that I've seen growing up. It made me fear sleeping. I would never forget the seen in the corridor when bloodied Tina shows up wrapped in a plastic bag. :) One will make an insomniac for quite sometime for a kid who fears Freddy might get him in his sleep. Oh, this flick also features Johnny Depp's first film role, as Glenn (ang lalaking laging nakakatulog).

When one talks about James Bond, the first thing that comes to my mind is its stunning intro. Random thoughts a) medyo flabby siyang James Bond b) I want an Aston Martin c) si Goldfinger ay madaya. d) Geneva is incrediably stunning, peg ko lang si ate at ang kanyang maniacal driving for a shoot. :D

I never wanted to revisit this film for three main reasons a) it stars Arnold Swarchenegger (at ginogoggle ko pa ang correct spelling ng kanyang name). Everything he's in is ruined by his accent, cue Total Recall. Yung era din na yan, hindi ko alam bakit favorite i-cast ang isang dude na may weird accent mga seryosong sci-fi film, comic relief ba ito? b) How do I take seriously the predator villain who is a breed between a rastafari and a vodoo man. dreadlocks ang peg teh?! c) On a more recent note, re-watching this movie reminded me of the failure that was Predators (2010). Yes I am looking at you Adrien Brody, you shall never be Arnold.

Little Tokyo- Urameshiya Yakiniku

I'd prefer Korean barbecue over Japanese Yakiniku because they maybe both pricey but at least with the former you get to have free side dishes. lol. Their cabbage/lettuce which comes in free for most Korean resto is at a whopping Php120. :P So anyway for the food, mas sulit na siguro yung pork. Both marinade was alright. Don't forget to squeeze the lemon!

Pork Bara (a.k.a Pork Belly, aka Bacon)

Jyo-Karubi

 Teba Gyoza
It was so underwhelming. Php100+ for a piece of stuffed wing. :(

Rexperiments Part 1

For weekends spent at home or sa pagtitipid moments, here are a few food experiments that Rex did for a couple of weeks. I'm the guinea pig.

1. "Down South" Barbecue Ribs and KFC Fries.

Improvised barbecue ribs in Rex's pizza pugon.

2. The "morning after the Buffalo wings blue cheese sauce" pasta.

So one movie night, we ordered Yellow cab. It was a decision to go for Shakey's buffalo wings or Yellow Cab's. Shakey's sauce is on the sour side, vinegar-y and note even spicy. It also has smaller portions. But its quite closer to "Buffalo Wings" compared to Yellow Cab's fried chicken. Solution? Make your own Buffalo Wings sauce. Frank's have their ready made Buffalo Wing sauce (add a bit of spice, pepper here and there), and voila. Just dip the bland Yellow cab wings and solb ka na.
The blue cheese sauce was a failure. Would never recommend putting sour cream+apple cider vinegar and Gorgonzola. Most of us are familiar with the Danish blue cheese on our buffalo wings dip. But since OOS ung Landmark at that time, our dip ended up as "pangpasta sauce". Surprisingly, this is the end result:

Oddly enough, De Cecco spaghetti pasta+that dip reminded me of the pasta I had in C's Italian Resto in Clark. :) Add a bit of white button mushroom siguro and perfect na siya.

3. The Best Chicken Green Curry evah.

I'm used to home-cooked hinalang version, that's a bit of gata and sili. As an alternative to chicken, my dad would use panga (manta ray ata ginagamit sa bahay because...its fins resembles that fish :(( )

Anyway, since we could not find the "perfect" curry, he made green curry from the spice mix we got from that Indian store in Paseo Magallanes (na medyo roach infected, but that's another story).

4. Buffalo Wings for the nth Time

Rex, the wings maker. :) Another experiment using Franks Buffalo Wings+butter and more butter+ a bit of spice here and there.

Makati Trippin'

1. Minsok Korean Restaurant

Don Pedro St. Poblacion,, Makati, Luzon, Philippines

So one weekday, I came across KCC at naalala ko na doon pala si Tech. So ending ng story we were looking for a place to have dinner. And we sorta wanted samgyeopsal. I've been to the whole lot of bunch of Korean Restos. Sa Makati area, I've been to two pa lang. Medyo wary ako for trying out other Korean restos since a) hindi medyo kamurahan at pagdi pa ako masaya uuwi lang akong disappointed b) medyo may expectation ako sa side dish.

This by far is my favorite Samgyeoupsal place. It also has one of the BEST SIDE DISH ever. (Kimchi, fish cake, and that other "veggie cake"). Prefer this over Jang ga nae, for the "refillable" side dish. Bugs the shit out of me when most Korean Restaurant has a staff na  wary when I ask them to refill the kimchi. Geez. I only eat one veggie out of the those that you serve anyway.

2. Tonkatsuya

Perfect for Katsudon and rice meal cravings. An alternative for those who go to Japanese restos just to eat..teriyaki chicken (no Len hindi ikaw un, hehe). I could not even finish one meal set, had to take home the Tonkatsu pa kasi may natira.Anyways, they also have sashimi on the menu (kung feel mo no rice mode ka, kaso sakto lang talaga sa araw na un wala- Sorry Rex).

Oyakudon
Tonkatsu

PS. I love how thoughtful sila sa takeout. Nagsama pa talaga ng Tonkatsu sauce, (that rarely happens for most "takeout sa tira-tira na ulam"

LGF C Palm Tower St. Paul Rd. San Antonio Village, Makati City TEL: (02) 896-1990Tonkatsu and Oyakudon goodness :)

3. Park Avenue Desserts

#7 G/F MagaCenter, Paseo de Magallanes Commercial Center, 1232 Makati, Philippines

Roca Cake+Latte

Not a fan of the Roca Cake (later ko na nalaman its made with coconut- duh EM duh.)but love their macaroons. There are other choices for the cakes. Sabi sa karamihan daw sa mga so-called foodies, Mango Crunch at Apple Tart ok daw :) Pero kung ikaw ay may craving for macaroons and red velvet, they have it sa store na din. :)

Cupcake

. Ill try other desserts next time. #1 reason- because Chef Buddy Trinidad IS so cool. Aspiration ata ni Rex ang maging chef+be part of a rockband :)

4. O-'sonho Portuguese

Had this a week before, same shiz: All Meat Paella, Beef Salpicao (not so sulit for me), Coffee Ribs (sabi nga ni Rex, kaya naman daw niya gawin sa bahay so not so sulit din. Not so crazy about this either). Big winner para sa akin ALL THE TIME ang Peri Peri Chicken. Its GOOD.

For Paella, I've had better ones. (puede.)
